Default A/C Compressor question

hey guys my compressor seems to be failing on me, I get barely cool air coming from the vents after a full charge, my dad the mechanic thinks the compressor is failing and suggests to replace it, and the receiver drier, my question is this, if I were to go to a junk yard and pick one up what years would be compatible and what GM models could I pull from? I know the park ave and a few others but which one * for sure would be using the same engine and might use the same compressor?

Before you go out and buy stuff, try cleaning the evp and see if the performance doesn't improve. check this out https://www.gmforum.com/t278997/

compatible vehicles on ACDELCO Part # 1522140A {#19188321)

BUICK PARK AVENUE 1995
BUICK RIVIERA 1995
OLDSMOBILE 88 ROYALE 1995
OLDSMOBILE 88 ROYALE LS 1995
OLDSMOBILE 88 ROYALE LSS 1995
OLDSMOBILE 98 REGENCY ELITE 1995
PONTIAC BONNEVILLE SE 1995
Ask your dad the mechanic how he feels about replacing the Orifice Tube ACDELCO Part # 1550122 {replaces 89032872 #19189843, 89032872}

When this gets plugged and or dirty it will restrict the freon flow making the system not cool properly even though the system has a full charge.

Not suggesting that your dad doesn't already know this but have him take a look at this article:

http://www.autoacsystems.com/fasttrack/otubes.html

Napa stores have these in stock btw

Have you done this yet?

You say that you hardly can get any cold air coming out of the vents; but how is the airflow?

Is it weak?

air flow seems fine, the A/C filling machine showed that the High side of the system has low pressure and the low side has high pressure, both sides being about the same PSI, meaning that the compressor is not compressing like it should but is more or less just moving the freon around, thats why he thinks that the compressor is not working. I have looked at the evap and it is a little dirty and I have cleaned it but that did not fix it.

and thanks toddster for the info... is it limited to just the '95 model year for all those cars or say '93 to '98 or something?

as for my father he is an ASE Certified Mechanic with 40+ years experience, 15 of which was an A/C Tech on trucks, I would assume he knows what he is talking about when it comes to A/C

Great to know about your dad'* experience. He should join the Forum! We could use him here.

However did you at least run it past him what I suggested about the Orifice Tube?

Ask him what he thinks about that.

Also the 1995 Compressor is pretty much year specific. It must have its own connection or something that is not compatible with other years.

I did ask him about it but he said if it was clogged that way the high side of the ac should be in high compression, and the low side should be low compression, the compressor itself failing would have hardly any compression at all which is what we are seeing.

as far as him being on the fourms, he works on cars all day and when he gets home he doesnt want to deal with them, he messes with his Ham radio stuff... you know playing around.
