Default bringng the 92 engine back to life

hey

in june 06 my timing chain broke on my 1992 SE. 170,000k. She'* been around.

what steps do i need to take bringing back this original engine?
I know the valves took a beating, headers probably need to be replaced and while im at it, the timing chain too.
ORR... do i buy a used engine somewhere? whatever is less expensive works in this case, however i dont want to cheat the car with bad parts.

Ive entertained the idea of the SSEi motor and tranny but im still thinking about it.

I doubt your valves took a beating. We don't have an interference motor.

What I'd do is remove the timing cover, line things up (balance shaft, camshaft, crankshaft), install the new timing set, then crank the engine with no plugs and check compression.
