All I know is we all ended up doing the yearly ritual at the end of test and tune day, drive to the Chevron, across from McDonalds, all staring at our Fuel gages on Empty..Bill said so himself..(going over the bride on E makes ya wonder if its actually gunna make it.)

The fuel at Newman'* 76 was unleaded..I know Paul ran Leaded at the track on the last day i belive and i do belive it effed up his 02 sensor over time..
I can't view the PDF, however, im sure shes Aokay!

Are you going to follow the recommendation and do it again in 1250 miles? And will you run Super Tech again, or go with another brand? I sure hope your bearings aren't having troubles. It may just be a fluke. Or perhaps the Walmart oil isn't worth running? I'm quite interested, because I'm currently running Super Tech as well.

I'd be tempted to change nothing at this point. Use the same oil, if if it'* Castrol GTX. The point is to find the source of the lead. Or rule out anything else.

If the lead is still there after the next test, THEN I'd consider changing oil. Even oil manufacturers can make a bad batch.

OK, just got off the phone with BIll from Blackstone (who in our conversation I found out he was the GM @ Norwalk Raceways)

He said since all the other bearing metals were well below average, the lead is from fuel and the effects could last through 1 oil change. He suggested I send in samples from the next few oil changes (of course, $20 a pop) and get a baseline, but he said to do it on regular change intervals. He isn't worried about bearings.

He also suggested his old racing line that "if you race it, change it." Do an oil change after a race.

I feel alot better now, was thinking about when I was going to tear down the engine, could I get it done in time for the trip to Denver, and if I should race this weekend.

Leaded fuels will f up a cat converter before you'll notice it anywhere else....Trust me, I found out the hard way lol.

I have changed out several crankshafts in 3800s and all the bearings ( new and old) have all been aluminum rather than babbet on brass or copper like the old ones used to be. I think (not sure) that the cam bearings are also aluminum, so I guess I would be surprised at the lead from bearings comment. Maybe the babbet type lead alloy bearings are still available for the 3800s.....Just an observation.
