I ran Accels for a short period of time. With the engine warmed up, WOT near redline, something very bad would happen 1 out of 5 times. There would be a very loud pop and instantaneous loss of about 4000 rpm. My best guess is early spark discharge leading to a backfire and an abupt end to proper combustion. I don't know if it is a design flaw or a bad coil. But I am unwilling to try any more to test.

They may be ok for an NA application where combustion temps are lower...

Does anybody know the part numbers for the hotter coils? of any brand? the coils tht my car should have read 8000 ohms with a meter, but all the ones that i can find are only the n/a coils around 5000, there should be a different part number for the ssei but their computers only show the same

These may no longer be the current numbers or prices, but they were at one time anyways.

GM part numbers for coils:
*/C 10477602 $70.35
N/A 10472401 $64.82

Here is the link to AC Delco’* on line catalog.

Punch in your 96 and it shows the D576 coil but they are not always correct so don’t order parts by their info only.

Check on other forums (3800pro, clubgp) for stock used coils. You can usually find 3 for around $25 if not less.
