Default Antifreeze

Recently I checked under my hood and found that I have almost no antifreeze left in the reservoir. Before my uncle handed off the car to me, he flushed it and put in regular green antifreeze. Now my question is, since I live in New York where the temperatures get ridiculous, what'* the best kind of antifreeze to use and should I even mix with water at all?

if you run straight antifreeze, you will have some problems...

1. antifreeze doesn't actually transfer heat as well as water does, which is why you mix them.

2. if you run straight antifreeze, when it does heat up, the antifreeze eventually turns into what i can best describe as a gel; it doesn't want to pump or transfer heat and it will start clogging whatever it runs into.

so, just run a 50/50 mix of antifreeze and water(distilled?) and forget about it.

Antifreeze is exactly what it'* name implies, it prevents freezing. Water is the best thing to run in a cooling system, but since it has a very high freezing point, you can't run just water in certain climates. 50/50 mix gives you the best of both worlds pretty much. Also, no anti-freeze provides better freezing protection than another.
