For about a month and a half now my battery has been going dead if it sits for a couple days. Once I jump it will run all day without a problem. This mainly occurs on an overnight sit. I have replaced 3 batteries and had the alternator rebuilt. I am thinking that it is a short someplace. Electrical isnt my strongest mechanical point. Any ideas as to where the culprit is? Also, I put a cheater pipe in place of the cat b/c it was leaking at the seams; not thinking that it would throw a lean code from the O2 sensor. Any ideas?

Two things i would check on your SSEi.

The Load leveling system (rear air struts) You can hear it when the system is running, the air compressor under the hood (between the throttle body and the washer bottle resivior. Your Struts may have a slow air leak, and the system constantly tries to put the car up at night. Pulling the ELC fuse will keep power from going to the system, but also allow it to drop, so be careful.

If pulling that fuse keeps your battery good, you need new struts, hoses, or to disable the system with new struts.

Antenna. If it doesn't go down all the way, or it'* broken it'll run all night.

One member found that his glovebox wasn't latching right and therefore left the glovebox light on and drained his battery.

No it won't...It should run it'* normal cycle and shut off.

I definatley remember someone posting the antenna problem.
So don't rule that out.

The air compressor does seem to run excessively. It runs for a minute or longer. I will check the struts this weekend. Any ideas on the cat and the O2 sensor issue?

Considering you live in the States (Wisconsin to be exact) it'* illegal to run a cheater pipe, and anyone that turns you in can get a 'finder'* fee' for doing so. The fines for you can be hefty.

The Cat delete really isn't a performance gain for you when compared to a high-flow unit. I'd suggest putting in a performance catalytic converter. Then tackle the lean condition if it still exists.

Also make sure your trunk light goes out when the trunk is closed.

Okay guys. It has been a while since I have been able to put some ample time into figuring out my battery drainage problem. Unfortunately to no avail. So far I have:
1. Pulled the fuse for ELC
2. Had the alternator rebuilt
3. Replaced the battery with a 1000cca
4. Pulled the relay for the Antenna
5. Disconnected the negative side of the battery and connected a amp meter to see what if anything is causing the drain. (I am drawing .o1 amps from the battery) from what I understand that is probably from the computer and the radio.

What gets me is if I charge it for the weekend it will last until Thursday. But at the same time it acts quirky. Some days I can jump it in the morning drive it for 45mins in the morning then again in the afternoon, and the next morning it will start fine without a problem. Other days I will have to jump it that morning and again the next morning.



So I am offically stumped. While at the parts store today I ran into another guy with a 88 bonneville that is having the same discharging problem as myself.
