Default Alternator Question

1996 SSEI

Issue: Lights will "pulse" when engine is running. They pulse at the same frequency, regardless of engine speed. They pulse most of the time, but infrequently they will not, but generally I can count on them pulsing. All the lights (interior, dash, external) pulse. I measure the voltage and it is at the correct level, but I'm sure that the meter is not able to measure the high and low voltage.

I'm discounting a problem with the recifier, due to the pulse rate not being linked to engine speed. I'm thinking it is a problem with the voltage regulator. Any comments on this? Thanks for the help!

I had the exact same problem...Turned out all it was is the belt slipping. The GMs are known for this "pulsing lights" problem. The voltage regulator turned out to be the most common culprit of this.
If the belt is good and tight, my bet is you won't waste your money on a new regulator, but go for a quality one, not an aftermarket. It'* been my experiances that most of the aftermarket ones will fail and make you spend more money only to find out you had a faulty regulator to begin with!

Good Luck
