Default air pump question

my air pump on my car didn't work, so my husband took it off and hooked the motor straight to the battery and it worked. you could see it turning and hear it, but when he put it back on the car it didn't work. what else could it be.

Turn on your inflator and check for 12V at the connector to the air pump with the ignition on.

Take the power connector that normally plugs into the compressor and probe each lead (wire or pin) to ground with the ignition on, inflator in the trunk on. You're looking for 12 volts.
