Default 97 SE fuel pump replacement

fuel pump getting pretty noisy, and fuel level sensor has gone insane, so i guess it'* about time to do the deed. do i need to expect any problems or is dropping down the tank to get access to the pump a simple matter? do i need to get pump from dealer or are there good aftermarket pumps?

TIA

Mike

Errr...I saw a detailed post on replacing the fuel pump. This'll bump the post up to the top, maybe someone else'll remember where it is

I recall that too. It should have been early enought to have not lost in in the hosting crash. I also recall someone suggesting only an AC Delco sender and pump?

If so, this is the part from www.gmpartsdirect.com:

Quote:

PACK QTY: 1 CORE CHARGE: $0.00
GM LIST: $431.99
OUR PRICE: $216.00
DESCRIPTION: SENDER KIT
(for 97-99, non-supercharged)

GM PART # 6443570
CATEGORY: Fuel Pump
PACK QTY: 1 CORE CHARGE: $0.00
GM LIST: $170.01
OUR PRICE: $85.01
DESCRIPTION: PUMP ASM,
(for 95-99, non-supercharged)

Still rather expensive after the discount. You may want to consider a wrecker. That'* what I recall the last person doing, but don't remember who it was. This isn't a common failure, so a wrecker part should last quite some time. Dropping the tank isn't difficult. Ramps or jackstands, and have a buddy there. Should be less than a 2-hour job at the most.
