Default 96 Bonni w/3800 V6 coughs when starting

Not all the time, but sometimes when starting, it coughs, quits and releases a smokey substance, smells like flint or gunsmoke, from hood. It eventually starts, but the problem is frustrating to deal with. Any one else have this experience? Thanks in advance.

Please notice all the sections in the Forum and place a problem in it'* proper section. As well, please dont double post a problem in several sections. It wont get your problem viewed any quicker, or by more people, and just makes it harder for you to get opinions in one place. Not to mention taking up more server resources.

I sounds like your cat is clogged. A sulfur smell will happen when they are clogged. Are you getting a SES light?

Pull your plugs and inspect them for any fouling.
