Default '94 troubles - ecu?

After 10 years of care free ownership, I finally ran into some problems this week. It first started with loosing the speedometer accompanied with a real high idle (2500 rpm). The next day almost no idle and frequent stalling after start up or at stop. Also would not start a couple of times but after waiting a few would start again. Still no speedo. Of course the check engine light is on but can't retrieve the code(*) due to the hybrid obd i/ii nonsense.

So I researched this site and others and seems the ECU might be the culprit so found a cheap used one on ebay. While I am waiting for it to arrive thought I would ask if anyone had other thoughts or suggestions. Also when the ECU arrives will I need to install the eprom from my old unit into the replacement? I assume I access to eprom through the cover on the back portion of the ECU?

Thanks in advance

Thanks much, the picture really helps. Should be a quick change out once I get the replacement. Hope that resolves the problem. Aside from the master cylinder and a couple of broken rear brake springs this has been one of the most sound cars I have ever owned (I have had my share).

Thanks again
