Default 94 SSE tranny downshift stalling

After the engine is up to temp, when braking or coasting while slowing down the RPMs will drop progressively closer to a stall each gear it downshifts. This is a real safety concern so any advice on the matter would be great.

Sounds like you need to scan for codes. That'* the best place to start. How'* the idle in park or neutral? Or in D with the brake applied?

That'* what I was thinking.......and the scan should show it. It'll set a soft code, and not a warning light.

The idle is fine in neutral and D. When the throttle is lightly applied, the engine engages in a notchy, jerky way. Please advise as how to find out the codes its spitting out. Thanks!

You need to have it scanned. Most auto parts stores will do it for free, but not your hybrid 94 PCM or the 95. Other stores may however. I have 2 local stores that'll scan the oddball years.

Your best bet may be a reputable trans shop though. They'll be able to scan for codes, and will be more familiar with what those codes tell them about the trans, but probably nothing else drivetrain related.

Try a privately owned trans shop that someone can reccommend. Stay clear of the national chains for the time being.
