Default 93 SSEi Muffler Replacement

Gents, I have a stock muffler on my 93 SSEi that has a rattly-vibrationy sound at idle and low RPMs while accelerating. The dealer price for a stock muffler is almost $600. What is a good replacement muffler? Prefer as close to stock size and sound as stock. If possible, please provide model number if Magnaflow, etc. Thanks in advance.

Have you inspected the muffler? If it'* only rattly at a certain RPM range first check your heat shields.

I had the exact same problem on a 93 SE that I used to own. The heat shield bolt had actually loosened and fallen out, allowing for the heat shield to physically rest on top of the muffler. The rattle was only evident at low RPMs.

Also, have you checked to see if your cat. converter is rattling? Sometimes a misdiagnosed cat will make you think your exhaust is failing.

I recommend either the Magnaflow muffler or Flowmaster 80 series muffler for the camaro'*. They go right in.

Also look into a high flow cat if you're thinking that yours needs to be replaced.

As of right now my heat shield is being held up by my muffler and there is no rattling noise. I know they are all different, but I am just letting you know

Logan is the lucky one for no rattle...Either your local parts store or maybe the local exhaust place

Default RE: 93 SSEi Muffler Replacement

Hi, Guys,
I guess I should have told the whole story: the reason I asked for assistance is because I took her to Mieneke and they have no muffler available that has the same inlet/outlet arrangement and sizes. Hard to believe, but they called the dealer and they want $599.98 for a stock muffler (does include pipes from muffler to bumper exits)..... not including installation, either. So I wondered what others are using for this. I replaced the catalitic converter last month and then this 'vibrationy rattle' thing has started. I think I will try taking her to another muffler place and see what they can do. The flowmaster 80 is a shorter muffler, but should be doable if a couple of pipe extensions are added. Thanks for the info already given!

Midas $300 Canadian, taxes and installation included (the outlet pipes were more expensive than the muffler). A bit louder than stock, but not a huge difference. Lifetime warranty on muffler.
