It'* hard to determine how much fuel you are using just basing it off of the fuel gauge. Best way to find out is to do a complete top off, reset your tripometer, and go about daily business until the next fill up. Write down how many miles you had traveled since the last fill up, divide that by the number of gallons you just put in.

Also if a hole has rusted through, the baffles in the tank are prolly sitting on the bottom of it. Makes it worse. You need to get that tank replaced. Leaving it is going to give you a lot more than gauge problems. Fuel Filter, sending unit, fuel pump failure, and clogged injectors to name a few.
Scott..
Get the hole filled or get a new tank. You're just asking for a real serious problem, like a fire. Also if you have gas sloshing out of damaged tank, you spilling gas everywhere you go is gonna get you hunted down by some hemp wearing, granola eating tree huggers.
