93 ssei gas mileage problems/questions

ok i have a 93 bonnie ssei i drove about 40 miles today and and about a lil more then a quarter of a tank is gone would that be normal and for some reason the gas guage is going up and down so idk if the more then quarter of a tank is even close to accuate it seems to be around 13 mpg

It's hard to determine how much fuel you are using just basing it off of the fuel gauge. Best way to find out is to do a complete top off, reset your tripometer, and go about daily business until the next fill up. Write down how many miles you had traveled since the last fill up, divide that by the number of gallons you just put in.

Well, that more than likely explains your high fuel consumption. The fuel DOES slosh around while the car is moving. If you have a hole, it will find a way out.

Also if a hole has rusted through, the baffles in the tank are prolly sitting on the bottom of it. Makes it worse. You need to get that tank replaced. Leaving it is going to give you a lot more than gauge problems. Fuel Filter, sending unit, fuel pump failure, and clogged injectors to name a few.

ya but i dont think its that big of a hole ya some will leak out but i still should getten all right gass mileage

Scott..

Get the hole filled or get a new tank. You're just asking for a real serious problem, like a fire. Also if you have gas sloshing out of damaged tank, you spilling gas everywhere you go is gonna get you hunted down by some hemp wearing, granola eating tree huggers.

Pull the plugs and inspect them. Do any of them look different?
