Default '93' sSecurity System....got bugs?

(RE: 93 SSEi) LOL....Nick just called me...spitting and sputtering like a wet cat. Evidently, his alarm is malfunctioning. He unlocked it with the key...got in, shut the door, it started going off...now, it lets him drive the car (...ha ha ha...he was driving around campus, lights flashing, horn beeping)....he gets out, locks the door with the key, and it'* fine.

Yes, he tried the turn to the right/left whatever combo is needed to disarm it. He does not have a fab...only the key. He only has one key (stupidhead), so it'* not that its a wrong one...???

I figure he'* got a loose wire somewhere...there must be a fuse he can pull to disable it. I told him to check the manual, but he was late for class....any suggestions? He will be calling after class, or driving home beeping... Lol!

I don't have much info on this and the FSM'* are at home (and a different year). If the issue is with the driver'* side door, he could try unlocking and even entering on the passenger side door. At least maybe he could drive it without the alarm going until we can figure out how to solve the problem. If he has his Owner'* Manual, he should look in there to see the key sequence to disarm or maybe locate the horn fuse to at least keep the horn from blowing.

IIRC the 93'* Security System only arms the car when the key fob is used to lock the car.... then if you were to unlock the door via the button inside the car, the alarm is triggered....

since there is no fob im not sure how the car got armed in the first place

I guess there was not a remote fab, only the key. Hmmmm...wouldn't it be funny if there was another student'* fab capable of setting the alarm...? Lol... I was under the impression that Nick has been able to set the security since he had it with the key....??? He mentioned that he'* set it off before, but has always been able to turn it off, and then open the door to get in the car....this time, for some reason, it goes off still...

The alarm sets itself by the power door locks. He would have had to use the FOB or the Key to lock the door, or the power lock button inside the car before he got out.

The only way I've ever set mine off is reaching through an open window and manually unlocking a door to open the car. The PDL circuit will disarm the alarm with either the key or the fob in the driver'* door.

Lol....i was thinking the same thing Aaron....

Okay...this is what I know for now....
He'* always used the power locks when exiting the car. Then he uses the key to unlock car and deactivate system. Today, for some reason...the car is unlocking, but not deactivating. It does, however, allow him to start the car.

On the '93'*....should the security system, when going off, allow the iginition to start?

I had him clean the key, making sure it did't have any gunk on it. He says the ignition key only operates the ignition (this one has the chip). The door key, only opens the doors and trunks. This doesn't make sense...I thought the ignition key worked both?? ....unless the ignition was changed at some point

So....at noon he unlocked the passenger side....and the horn/lights went off. They eventually quit after the alloted time period. So now he'* driving the car, and will attempt to get out of it when he reaches work. I told him to call me to see if it goes off just from him opening the door again.

I also told him to not lock it at work...
