LOL.. that sounds like my lovely car. I just didn't trust the mechanic that I brought it into who said it needed a whole new engine. I don't know, he probably figured he would get $3000 out of me. I really hope it'* something that is cheaper to fix!

well if that is the sound then a bearing is gone....its tough to say the extent of the damage....mike got a used low mile engine and did the swap himself....the MN'ers may organize a meet and swap an engine...if you provide Beer there will be bonnevilles in your drive way...LOL....from what i have herd there are a ton of yards that are in the MN area....I'll let the locals speak..

Oh, I can provide the beer (as long as I can have a couple). Shoot, I'll even get under the car just to learn a few things!

I'm sure some of the MN boys will come through here for a quick look-see, but it sounds like we're onto something. Whether it can be fixed in the car or not depends on a few things. It'* possible for rod or bearing damage NOT to affect the crank, but not likely. However, the crank can also be replaced IN THE VEHICLE. So there is hope.

Just do me a favor.....if someone starts pulling rod caps off for inspection, MAKE SURE THEY NUMBER THEM!

To give you an idea, around here (northeast) a used motor can cost up to $500 and then usually about $500 to install.

Although it'* not hard to change a motor it takes time. That'* where the labor costs are consumed.

I'm 10 min away from eagan. I could look at it myself.

I also work at a salvage yard, so I maybe able to dig up a motor, but with that year gonna prolly be some pretty high mileage motors. Expensive too.

But if you'd like me to come over, I'm sure I could arrange something.

I can try and help out too. No promises, scheduling is done by The Missus. But definitely let us know when this is going to happen. The more the merrier, right?

You might get lucky, it could just be a bad plug and/or wire or possibly a bad injector.
