It cranks OK, there are no sparks at all spark plugs, no sparks with a different spark plug at each lead, no sparks from the coils to ground. There seems to be fuel coming because there is the smell of gas in the cylinders when I removed the spark plugs. I can hear also hear the fuel pump shutting down when I stop cranking.
The check engine light is on, so I used the "diagnostic tool" I bought for that purpose, and it gives code 42, which the diagnostic manual says:
"Electronic Spark Timing (EST) circuit - open or shorted."
"Direct Ignition System (DIS) fault - open or shorted to ground during engine run."
"Fuel Cutoff Relay circuit - open or shorted to ground."

I also get "Bypass or Electronic Spark Timing (EST) circuit" in another manual.

I also checked all the relays under the hood and all the fuses and they are OK.
So I am tempted to think it is the ignition module, and I called a few places and they want CAN$468 for a new Delco or CAN$365 for an aftermarket one. I am thinking of getting a new one from ebay.

Is there anything else I should check?

I have been watching your thread and waiting for one of the Gearheads to chime in, but they are probably busy. I am not too familiar with your issue, but I do know your problem could be with the ECM (engine control module), or with the ignition module. My point is until you narrow it down, I would not purchase a new ignition module. It might fix it, or you might spend $400 and still have the problem.

Be patient. Someone that knows more about this than me will chime in sooner or later.

Check the plug, if there is one, on the ignition module for any corrosion or damage. I'm not to familiar with your year. If you do need a new ignition module, check Auto Parts Fast at RockAuto they tend to have the best prices around.

I ordered a new ICM from Rock Auto sometime in November good prices, quick service, thanks Danthurs. Installed it after having to drill out a screw holding one ignition coil and still did not start. Same code 42.

In January, I had to get it towed to a garage and they cleaned the pedestal and put everything back together and it started. After sitting around for so long, the starter sticks, so it does not work on colder days.
