I just tore apart my Series II today that I got for $200 Cdn. It had a bottom end knock, turned out it was #6 Conn Rod Bearing that had spun. Everything else in the engine was/is excellent for 160,000 km. I will now see if the Crank is repairable for oversized bearings for hole #6 & then sell what parts I don't need. I know from my job as a Partsman that Bearings & journal turning are quite cheap too.

I saw look around & see what'* available, if you don't mind a little work, then a great buy is probably just around the next corner!

Well I wish I could say the same.

The previous owner was driving about
and probably due to a lack of maintenance
the oil pressure went through the roof.
Swelled the oil filter to almost twice it'*
size, then the OP sending unit gave out emptying
the crankcase of it'* vital fluid. He started
hearing a knock and kept driving until it
seized. Damn shame.

(Previous owners name withheld to protect the idiot
from possible lynching by horrified Bonnevillers) <g>

SSEiMamba-
Lucky for this "Idiot" that I'm not around to kick his arse! Guys like this shouldn't drive in the first place!
I see now why you can't possible salvage to the bottom end.
You still might be able to get a "Used" engine for under $1000 though.
