170k miles. Car was given to my son by his uncle. The magnet had fallen off of the timing gear. Couldn't pass emissions in Ohio with the check engine light on and he was unwilling to shell out $800.00.

A quick lookup on the internet for a how-to, $14.00 for the magnet and a little gorilla glue later no check engine light. Been off ever since.

I also have three Volvo'*, I consider the build quality of the car right in there with them. It seems comparable to some of the cars GM produced in the 60'*.

Anyway, I am now trying to work out the bugs and get all of my cars ready for winter.

These cars coast pretty fast when going downhill. My current 92 SSE & a 88 SSE operated the same way.

I think that it is a safety feature (TCC release) that keeps the car from swapping ends in snow & such when going downhill. A rear drive car would have the rear wheels "braking" to keep the front wheels ahead but a fwd car with the front wheels resisting just sounds scary in snow going downhill.

I have a Volvo 850 with Front wheel drive. It does not do this. I can believe that GM may have thought it was a safety feature but if Volvo doesn't think it is an issue, it isn't one in my book.

I was taught (in the old days when drivers ed was about piloting the car) that you should never put a car in neutral downhill because it disconnects the drivetrain and reduces your control of the vehicle.

Anyway, this freewheeling is a major annoyance. I hate braking on the interstate. I dislike what it does to the cruise control. If there was a way of altering the transmission PROM I would do it.
