I think the issues with this was finding a 5 speed manual that mounts to a FWD 3800. I think all the 5 speed manual firebirds that had 3800'* were rear wheel drive.

Most of your frontwheel drive GM'* with manuals have the same bellhousing pattern...2.3, 2.5, 2.8, 3.1, 3.4, 3.8 and some of the Northstar 4.6'* use the same pattern.

I think the biggest problem would be fitting a clutch pedal and the hydraulics.

I'm pretty sure the front drive manuals will mate up to the engine...other probs would be axles spline count, mounting the shifter and pedal plus wiring as far as speed sensor (maybe not too bad) and PRNDL switch...not sure if 3.8 flywheel for Camaro/Firebird will work on front drive crank....supposed to per GM.

If anyone is going to attempt this, just try and either find a Getrag HM 284, or a beefed up (read: not stock) 282.. THere is an isuzu version out there, usually mated to 4 bangers, and they are weak *** ****.. The 282 I doubt could handle an SC 3800.. I know the 3.4 DOHC (Which I want) needs the 284.. Just my contribution to the group.. A car the size of a Bonneville 5 speeded would be so sweet..

I'm not going to try this conversion any time soon, but I urge you who have the time and resources to give it a go. Maybe you'll find a suitable match to the 3800.

I've done a search here and was not able to find anything yet, may have to try a few different terms...pretty much everywhere I look it shows to stay with the Getrag unit. Will do some more research and post whay I can find.
