okay i havent tryed all that yet i soon will becasue i do have that problem also, but i noticed when i was changing my spark plugs and wires the blowers vacuum is broken off( not off the blower but the firewall) along with some of the plastic that is over the firewall. It is still there where it should be but i can take the hole vacuum and attachment off the firewall with ease, could that be one of my problems with the AC?

I believe that is simply a vent for the blower bearings. Not so important as a vent but there will be a large, exposed hole in the blower motor housing. Dirt, crud and moisture will kill that blower motor very quickly if left open.

Mine crumbled away too when I was troubleshooting a blower problem. I tried to rig up something which sucked, quite frankly. When I had difficulty finding the right blower motor at the parts store, I decided to remove the one from a parts car I had. Strangely enough, it had an elbow that went into the blower "box" like a grommet rather than being a part of the rubber cover. This has been working well ever since the change.

To note, the piece that crumbled to dust was on my 93 SSEi and the part I replaced it with was off of a 93 SE with the SLE package.

Murdock...no vents meaning the airflow defaults to the floor and defroster?

If so like that NickS thread, check the vacuum hose.
