Default 1997 SSE Serpentine Belt Routing.....HELP??

I was asked to help a friend w/ his '97 SSE in replacing a serp. belt....I said NO problem, 2 minute task................THEN I saw the belt INSIDE the motor mount. Being on the side of the road, without my floor jack etc.....there was NO way to remove the side motor mount w/o jacking up the engine. THAT can't be right can it?? I've never seen a serp belt that you have to unbolt the side motor mount. Was this serp belt on wrong? Please help, is there a correct way to route this belt without having to remove the mount? Thanks.....any pictures would be a great help. :?

It sounds right. Bummer, huh? Yeah, you need to undo the motor mount and jack it up just a bit.

You don't need to jack it up at all. Just take out the one motor mount bolt and pass the belt through.

There are detailed pix and instructions here. Use the search button.

Am I glad I got a Series I. Who at Pontiac hired the Ford engineer to design that setup?
