Default 1996 SSEi Headers

I am looking for some aftermarket headers for my 96 SSEi. I can find them for 97 and up but nothing for the 96. Any suggestions?

The problem with headers on your year is not so much the engine but the transmission. If I remember right, there is a module on the transmission that will be very close to if not touching the header and it will melt. I believe you have the 4t60 transmission.

Not to hijack the thread, but are the 1997'* with the 4T60-E also affected?

The 4T60 has the electrical connector on the top front of the trans, The headers are designed for a 4T65 with the connector on the side.

Here'* a picture where we can see the vacuum accumulator on the 4T60 is down low and out of the way, you may be able to see the electrical connector nearly touching these PaceSetter headers. Mostly it was the flange that hit. So SpeedDaddy headers may fit ok, or you may want to put some heat resistant material on it.

Any car with the 4t60 will have the same problem. Bill nailed it. I couldn't remember if it was the modulator or the wires.

You know how it goes Dan.. after the second time the car comes back with trouble and you are trying to help the guy. You remember it.

In this case, it was the flange that caused the issue. I'd say if you didn't get pacesetters or TOGS, you'd probably be ok.
