1995 bonneville transmision problems no rev only drive
I bought a 95 bonneville the guy was driving it and it started acting up and now it has no reverse only 1st gear. When you put it in reverse its just like neutral. Could this be and electrical issue or is it time for a new tranny? I have heard that the TPS could cause problems but would I don't think it would affect reverse. Any help from you guys would be great. If it is the tranny anyone have one for a 95? Its a FW2 1995 only for a park avenue, olds 88 or bonneville. Anyone know what it would take to put a 1992 park ave tranny in it?

First off, we need some information. Can you put "95 (insert trim level here)" in your signature? We need to know what gear ratio you have to determine compatibilities, and we can pretty well do this if we know what you have. SE, SLE, SSE, SSEi.
The first thing I'd look at is the linkages in the center console (if equipped) and at the trans using a service manual.
Another helpful thing would be to know where you're located. We may have a scantool or factory service manuals nearby.
It sounds identical to wath happened to my car. The fix was a major overhaul since the reverse reaction drum laso known as "Stove Pipe", is damaged. Normal occurrence with the transmission. The replacement is hardened to prevent this failure.
Its an se . When you put it in reverse the rpm changes very slightly and there is a slight noise comming from the tranny. It does not move at all in reverse. Will the stove pipe make any other foward gear act up?
look on your RPO codes...you will see one if these codes
FR2 - ratio, transaxle, final drive 2.93
FW2 - ratio, transaxle, final drive 3.06
F17 - ratio, transaxle, final drive 2.84
F79 - ratio, transaxle, final drive 2.97
F83 - ratio, transaxle, final drive 3.05
GX3 - ratio, transaxle, final drive 3.33
I believe that you will need a trans that is a 95 ONLY and compatable with your gear ratio

yup, id bet any ammount of money it was your reverse drum that shatterd, the mechanic that rebuilt mine says he has seen that happen alot, and that was the first question he asked me, do you still have reverse.
