I have a 1994 Bonneville SSEi and i am having engine problems-It makes a very loud rattling noise when running-It has been sitting for about a year and a half i was told the engine was shot because the longers bearings were shot-I was thinking of just buying a used engine but I dont know what to do
Anything suggestions?

My suggestion is to check the face of the harmonic balancer for cracks. Especially if the rattle goes away as you roll into the throttle.



Typical failure on a car of that age. Especially after sitting unused.

Did you check the harmonic balancer yet? We need to know. When they go bad like the picture above, they will sound like a bad knock at idle

I once had a lower bearing knock ,they [the pontiac dealer] told me my harmonic balance was off . a couple of hundred dollers later .it went away [for a week or so] there was the knock agian any there is more to the story to long if you really care for the car get a new engine

no the harmonic balancer is just fine are there any possible problems that could occur now if i was to put an engine in when it has been sitting for about 2 years

If you decide to get a replacement engine, just make sure to check all fluids, do a complete tune up, grease all ball joints, tie rods etc... check out the bushings. You should be fine
