Default 1993 overheating

hey, im not sure if this is just because its old but i have a 1993 bonnveille ssei with 165,000 miles on it, when i changed the plugs and wires i wanted to test drive the car, so i took it to on the streets, i sopped completely and floored it and it went fine and no problems, but then i took it out on the highway and floored it for about a mile and then the temp went to about 250 and the car started to smell really bad, i wanted to know if that was because i need a better cooling system or if the car was not ment to be driven so hard, plez need to know

I would say neither. The cars are built with adequate cooling systems and what you did would not be considered driving it hard. Something is clearly wrong with your car. Did it have lots of power? Mine recently started overheating on hills and under hard acceleration because the catalytic converter had become plugged due to some other electronic issues. Or, maybe you just don't have enough coolant in the cooling system, or maybe the sending unit that tells the cooling fan to come on has failed so the electric fan is not coming on when it heats up. There'* undoubtedly lots of other reasons this could be happening too. Good luck.

thanks for the reply, and yea when i put it to the floor i had all the power it usually does, i was duin about 110 before i let off, you think i should flush out the coolant or look at the catalytic converter or test out the cooling fan
