Default Bad hesitation/stalling 1995 SE

Hello to everyone. This is a great thing to be able to be here and share knowledge and experiences. Awesome. I have a 1995 SE (vin K) with 157K. A couple of months ago, I started getting this hesitation, or loss of power on acceleration from a dead stop and going 70mph on the freeway. The car also stalled out on me a couple of times sitting at a light, and once on the freeway going 70mph. I tuned up with new plugs, fuel filter, PCV, air filter. When I did this, one plug (from #4 cylinder) was pretty foul with ash?? My dad said he’d never seen one like that before, and that it was running lean. I thought of a clogged injector, but that wouldn’t cause the car to stall right? After the tune up it seemed better for a few days, then right back to where I was before. The car stalled out on me approaching a light so I coasted to the side of the road and turned the key to listen for the fuel pump and did not hear it. I waited, then turned it again and heard it this time. The car started and I immediately drove to Murray’* and got a new fuel pump relay just to see. Well, all I can say about that it that I have a new fuel pump relay because it still hesitates. Can a fuel pump be “failing”? I thought when it goes it goes? Anyway, the car is still doing it and I don’t know what the problem is. It also might be worse (more frequent) when it’* hot out. People have suggested a few things like a bad coil, and the fuel pump, but can a fuel pump actually be “failing”?

Being heat related, I'd tend to suspect the FPR before the pump. Have you had a pressure gauge on the rail?

That is my next step......for a 95 SE the fuel pressure with the key on and engine off should be 40 to 47psi right?
