Think I broke some stuff. Driving home after work the SES light came on and I lost the speedo. The front end started smoking. I pulled over to see what was going on. Under the hood the steering rack was covered in pink fluid, so I checked the power steering fluid it almost empty. Then I checked the tranny fluid there was none. I drove two blocks to my house. I didnt think I was going to make it. The tranny almost felt like it was in neutral when it was in drive. I want to know how I lost so much power steering fluid and tranny fluid at the same time. My tranny is under warranty so thats not a big deal but what about the power steering how would that have dumped all the fluid?
the steering still felt perfectly fine. How do you tell the difference between tranny and power steering fluid? I dont remember ever being so pissed off in my life.

Something is definitly broken, I looked under the hood and I saw something cast that is broken right off. it has a sensor on it. It is on the passenger side of the car. The broken peice is sitting on the steering rack. What is on the passenger side that has to do with the tranny?

Nothing on the passenger side has to do with the trans (mostly). There is a small cooler for the PS fluid over there, though.

What do you mean "mostly". I'm pretty sure its tranny fluid all over under there, but that broken thing is kinda making me worry about something being very bad. I have zero tranny fluid and I'm low ps fluid. I'm gonna take a pic to show ya the broken thing.

Can you shoot another pic from farther away, but the same perspective? Need to zero in on this.

mmmm...I hate to make this bet but I'd put $100 on that being part of your transmission housing. Its obviously a broken piece of something. The block wouldn't crack off like that unless you threw a rod or something and its a different metal than that looks plus in 99% of its area its thicker than that.. I'd look areas like the bell housing as it looks like at the end it curves up. Ahhh its just really ugly in there. Hmm...maybe not part of the bell housing. I'm trying to picture what would have happened to crack a piece of the trans off and the first moving part I though of was the flywheel but if that came off you'd have a whole host of other problems. Something I did notice though was that the teeth and the main wheel itself (the flywheel) are actually two pieces welded together. I was looking at mine and in one or two spots you could see a tiny bit of light through the teeth and the wheel itself. Me and a friend were talking about it and since they're technically two separate pieces they have two separate rotating masses, our guess was the teeth were heavier which would mean that if you acclerated and slowed down really fast that the teeth section would pull on the 3-4 spot welds that held it to the wheel and could potentially come off. I've never heard of it happening except once, a guy I know was racing a high power 350 with nitrous and half way down the track the flexplate came off and came through the dash and went on its way down the track. Scary crap. Anyway long story short see if you can start it then immediately shut if off. Otherwise I'd still bet that $100. At least its got a warranty, right? Definately keep up updated and more pics if you can. Ahhh, I love to type

Would that be the differential? If so thats why it was replaced to begin with. I still have the old gears from the last one. This one isn't but about 12000kms old.

BTW what is a VSS? would that have anything to do with my speedo not working?
