**** new update on page 2****

Hey all !

Car is a 95 SSEI, dad just picked it up 2 weeks ago. Mint condition 137 000 kms

Sorry if this gets to be a novel.

I was driving along and there was a car beside me , i wanted to get in front of him to turn so i floored it the car took off and changed lanes. As soon as i was in the new lane i was about to hit th ebrakes to slow down for a car in front of me and BAAAM out of no where the car takes off like bad outta hell without me touching the gas pedal, It woke me up thats for sure. So i pull the car over a lane so i dont hit the guy in front of me and hit the brakes, it keeps accelerationg hard with my foot on the brakes and no gas. It took off as hard as it did when i accelerated 5 seconds before. So i slammed it into neutral and the revs just shoot up to 5500 and bounce off the rev limiter like an idiot. So i saw a street coming up and shut the ignition off and pulled over. I tried startingit and still just bounced off the limiter. So i popped the hood and saw nothing otta place near the TB or anything. Closed the hood and tried starting again and it started and ran fine. Drove it all night after and it was fine but everytime i was coming up to an intersection or traffic in front of me id slip it into Neutral just incase it descided to go for another surprise run into a busy intersection or take out a pedestrian or 2.

So i have no idea what that might have been. Any thoughts?

Another problem were having is gas milage. On a full tank 80% highway driving and granny driving pretty much gets 400-415 kms(390 miles) to a full tank of gas. Thats about 260 Miles to a tank of gas in the 95 SSEI. My dads old 92 SSEI got 600-625 kms( to a tank of gas doing the same driving , same route daily with both cars. Thats about a 200 kms(125 miles) difference in gas milage. Thats a big difference in the 2 SSEI'*.

Something must be up, it smells like its running rich at times AND my dad said the check engine light came on couple time son him today. so i took the car tonight to see if anything happens with the check engine light but no, i got a full throttle surprise instead which i have not even mentioned to him yet cause its just happened 2 hrs ago.

Another thing is that when the car drives it feels way different then his old 92 Bonnie. On the highway it will wonder, like if i drive over a certain patch of road it pulls the car towards it and have to use some skill to make the car go straight, this is only over rough road and uneven, when its nice clean road its straight smooth ride. Alignment was done and everything is in spec nicely. Now it also makes this sound like a cv shaft is worn or something. So the dealer we got it from changed right cv shaft, the strut bearings on the top of each strut and still same noise. You can feel it in the wheel and under my left foot at times. I dunno this car is really nice cond in and out but these stpid problems starting so soon is a **** off. Specialy when my dad got the newer Bonnie to replace the old Bonnie that he spent 2000 g'* on 3 weeks ago before he got fed up with it.

Just just got this car for 6800 CAD tax in out the door 2 weeks ago and he is not a happy camper.

Any thoughts comments would be apreciated.

Tom

An electrical problem will not cause the engine to rev (Full throttle suprise - good one) like that. There are obviously still cables. There are 2 of them going to the throttle body. In order to rev up like that you need the air going into the engine or it would just die due to richness (flood out). I believe the top (easy enough to see)cable is the throttle cable. Have a buddy go into the car and with the engine off, have him slowly depress the throttle to WOT and back again. You will be observing the throttle body and cables. have him slam the peddle down a few times to emulate what you did (and we all do sometimes). If you find no problem remove the clips (easy to loose though) and take off the cables. Actuate the throttle yourself to observe anything that is out of the norm.

The mileage thing. I have a 92 SSEi and I do about 80 percent highway driving as well and was getting about 400-450 km per tank...ouch. I had to clean out the cat (insides removed) and put in a new O2 sensor (original with 245,000km). My fuel economy has went up to 550-580 km per tank. The 02 has probably already payed for itself considering I go through almost a tank a week.

The best place to start is to get the car scanned. If the check engine light was coming on then as long as it hasn't been driven 20 times or so, the code should be still in history and will be refreshed each time the error occurs. If the light comes on again, within the next little while (day or so).

Hope this helps...

Lube the throttle cable with some pentrating oil (wd40 or similar).
The poor fuel milage should inprove with a good tune up including the o2 sensor.

Once you quell the engine running up like that, you'll get better milage.

When you step on the gas all it dose is effect the Throttle Plate. When More air gets pulled through the throttle plate, the MAF sensor sees it, and tells the car to send more fuel. Both cause the engine to go up. But the only thing that can possibly make you rev up is either a bad MAF, or something in the Throttle Linkages being stuck.

The throttle body may be dirty, causing the throttle plate to stick open at higher rpms. And yes, I would guess your oxygen sensor is bad. However the SES light means that you have a code stored... Need a scantool to retrieve the code to see what the problem is there.

How are the tires? They can cause a car to wonder like that. Try getting them rotated and see what happens.

The sound you may be hearing from the wheels might be a wheel bearing... I had a bad bearing on my passenger side and, it made a sound, and pulled when I hit certain parts of the road.

My old Ford Explorer used to do the same thing with the uncontrollable acceleration. It ended up being the fuel pressure regulator. After I changed it, no more issues. Ran fine until I sold it 12,000 miles later.

I never had to look at this area on my Bonne, but are there return springs that he might want to be checking?

To be specific, if any are completely missing from his car, he won't notice, so if there _should_ be one or more springs present, what should he find?

So here is an update after the car beeing in the shop for a week.

Dad was going to the shop to get the front end noise check out again. On his way there he hears knocking. Turns out it was the engine knocking . Water pump started going already just after car was bough.

Bought the car with Warranty so everything was covered.

Now the full throttle surprise deal was a bad ECU. So they changed the ECU . They did some scan on it and turned out to be it. So i have an extra ECU now that is almost good lol.

So brough the car home last night finally . I take it out for a test drive, driving slow breaking the engine in. Guess what i hear???? engine knocking. Yup they messed something up bad.

Now not even 12 hrs later the cars back in the shop, the insurance taken off and put back on the 92 SEEI with 300 000 kms that is running fine exept the funky idle problem.
Old champ to the rescue.

P.* dads not happy again

P.P.* the original problem why my dad was going there(fron end noise) was not fixed. Couldnt find it more then anything. Changed right cv shaft and strut bearings but still nothing, inspected it all kinds and found nothing.
