For a couple months now, I've been hearing what sounds like a constant whine that is constant with the running of the engine. I hear it mainly when I accelerate and also when I make turns. Almost sounds like a groan at low speeds. I thought it was power steering fluid, but the fluid is at a good level. Belts are all tight, other fluids look good. Any ideas?

perhaps it is the power steering. i know there are some pumps that whine even though the fluid is full <thanks ford > it could also be an alternator, or maybe even a tranny. can you tell what side the noise is coming from?

No fords, no womans. It'* hard to tell what side it'* coming from, but the noise does seem to get more prominent when i turn the wheel.

It'* kind of hard to say without hearing it. I had a whining noise under the hood that was completely related to vehicle/engine speed.

That noise is now gone after my trans got rebuilt, so that'* what the culprit was in my case.

more prominant how? if you were to rev to 1000 rpm, then turned the wheel, would it still be louder, or remain the same?

A quick way to narrow it down is to spray some belt dressing on your belt while the car is running. If that doesn't help, spray some light lubricant on each idler pulley one at a time, checking for the problem after each one.

These steps can rule out some of the obvious potential culprits, and if it doesn't help, can steer us in the right direction.

its most likely the pump. Moms Park Ave did it until I flushed it and added fluid conditioner.
