Anyone in here have any experience with a superchip in there bonnevilles. I've seen one advertised for my 89 that is supposted to gain 17 hp and 22 ft lbs of torque. Just wondering if this would be enough to make a difference in the performance of the car. Also I know that changing the chip changes the air fuel ratio and the timing and was wondering if I change the chip will I need to run premium unleaded gasoline. Also would it be a good idea to do such a thing on a car that is nearing 200,000 miles. Also if I do decide to change the chip how hard is it to remove the old one. I know it'* located up under the glovebox but after looking at it I believe it will also involve removing the cables and stuff for my electronic climate control. Sorry the post is so long, but hey I'm new to this stuff and I want to learn everything I can. Keep up the good work.

I've heard good and bad things about performance chips. Some don't really seem to make any differance at all, yet the 03 Mustang Cobra is getting 50-70 HP with a chip Haven't heard about any chips for Bonnies, but if u do gain 17HP and 22ft lbs of TQ then u will for sure feel it. That won't make it a Vette killer but will be a nice kick in the *** Most times when u change to a performance chip they reccomend that u run premium fuel. Just out of curiosity how much $$$ is it? I know I wouldn't mind an extra few ponies under my Bonnies hood

I got one for my truck ( when I had it). I went with the superchips one instead of Jet chip cause it made more changes throughout the rpm range. The only drawback I had was the fact that I had to use the high octane gas so the engine wouldn't start knocking. I found there was a difference, mind you this was a 4x4 ext cab with 31 inch tires on it.

If it wasn't for the price fo gas it would have been great. ( I live in Canada, at the moment the price for high octane is around the $3 a gallon range)

Well the chip is based mostly on the current performance of the car. For example if the engine is retarded for fuel economy reasons and smog reasons with the computer doing the retarding then you will get the greatest gain. But if you are just pushing the engine a bit more it will require better fuel to notice the difference and the difference will be smaller. If you look into chips for the sc and non-sc 3.8 you will notice exactly what I am talking about. Hope that helped a bit. There is however exceptions and they have been posted on this site. I would say some companies are more knowledgeable than others about the engines they are working with. DHP would be the one I am talking about.

I was looking at getting one myself. They have a 30 day money-back guarantee so if you don't like it you can send it back. The big thing I want is the removal of the 108mph speed limiter. But when I emailed them they couldn't guarantee that the chip removed it.

And yes you do have to run 91 octane or better with the chip.
