Hi guys!
I´m sitting in Sweden with a -91 Bonneville SSE with a problem.
The problem is that the starter solenoid keeps breaking for me.
I replaced it for about three weeks ago, and now it´* broken again.
Please help me solve this problem, it drives me crazy!!!

How in the HELL does it keep breaking though?
Are you hitting it? Or is it just that the Starter Drive doesn't engage the flywheel? if the later, try "Shimming" the starter!

No of course i´m not hitting it!!
And your other question is exactly my question.
I´ve changed the solenoid 3 times in 3 years, but the last 2 within 3 weeks.
And the starter is the same, and the shims are the same.
So, what´* the reason for this breakdown?
Peter
Ps The solenoid does not engage at all

Hi fuddyduddy121
Hm i have measured the resistent on the cabels and nothing unusual there.
Do you think that it can still be the problem?
The connector on the big pluscable was a bit corroded when i changed the solenoid last time, but i rinsed it shining so .... ????

Look where the cables attach to the starter, at the terminals.
The problem is usually not in the wires, but at the starter where the wires connect. You may try replacing the terminals that are on the starter and the cable ends. You can also try scrubbing them with a wire brush or soaking them in baking soda and water.

Eh, the cables connect at the solenoid (that keeps stop working) and it´* a brand new part everytime.
Nice tip with baking soda and water though.

Is the Starter Drive working at all? *IE: making a noise?*
If so try new shims.
If not try to see if there is "POWER" even getting to the Solinoid.
Are you using GM parts too BTW? Most "jobber" parts are just "remanufactured cores" & not NEW parts like GM.
