SSE Cluster
I know this is a common problem on our cars--does someone know why our compass and info center crap out all the time? Could it be a bad ground strap or something? mine would come on sometimes for a minute or so then go back out--now they don't come on at all anymore. Once they went on(just sitting-running in my driveway). I was able to probe for power on the connections behind the cluster and everything showed like it was getting power. I even swapped fuses and(can't think what the hell they're called right now)the resistors behind the glove box w/no results. That'* what makes me think it could be a ground somewhere rubbing or something.
Does anyone have any input or ideas on this?
thanks for any help.

I've already taken my entire cluster apart w/no different results. Once the weather gets warmer I'll do it again and make sure the solder is all good.
The article isn't for my 89--but is it all the same? Meaning this is a very common problem among all the years?

I've heard of your problem, but I can only testify that the above solution works with the 92-99...
In the 92-99, it'* not the solder points so much as the internal wiring harnesses and plug contacts. Not the ones on the back of the cluster, but the ones INSIDE the cluster.

my 90 did the same thing, and i replaced the plastic thing on the back of the cluster. where the power runs through and stuff.. the problem is the cluster. if you swap out the clusters they will work. the thing plastic "board" i guess i can call it, is GREEN if its original. Blue if its been reman'd.
