Push the button for for five seconds or so after sitting overnight, give a few pumps and it would crank right up.

Might be able to duplicate for a test after sitting for the five hours by turning key on, wait two seconds, turn key off and repeat five times. Then try cranking. I'd want to put a pressure guage on the system first.
Understood.... the bypass sounds like a feasilble idea. Jr was saying last night that the ECM only allows for 2 second priming of the fuel pump. Not nearly enough time to get the fuel sent past a wonky regulator. Of course that has to be the problem in the first place. The only thing that bugs me...the Dealer said all the pressure readings were fine :?

Right...however if I do the regulator first and that ends up not being the problem. Then the $700 dollars to fix the pump will probably include some new fuel line work.

Remains to be seen, but we'll take this one step at a time. The remote start is nice, I can start the car every few hours...so far, no probs today. I don't want my car gasping for fuel tho. I gotta get this issue resolved.

Ok I finally have a real reason to post in the club (rather than just an opinion). Lately I've been having starting problems and I'm sure it'* not the FP cause I just changed that about 2-3 months ago.(I know what to look for when it'* that)
My engine will crank (Powerfully no battery problems) and if it doesn't catch right away it will make a *wiss* sound like the starter is working but something just isn't catching. Sometimes it cranks right up and sometimes it gives me problems. It can happen when I turn off the car, to run in to the store (5 min). When it acts up I give it gas while it cranks, that works sometimes. I need some ideas on what the problem could be. Once I find out the problem it'* no big deal to fix it (I'm a Driveway Mechanic). OH Yeah My 89 Bonneville is my best friend and I can't let something be wrong with my best friend.

Ironman, once I get the pressure regulator on, I'll let you know. Sounds to me like we have similar probs.

But recently the car has been behaving well.... or better anyway :?

Does it show when you turn the key and the car doesn't say nothing for 2 second and then crank up, is that a failing sign also?

Okay, the "wiss" sound could be a bad starter solenoid. (what I call a bendix). This is what engages the starter gear to the flywheel.

OK..cool, I figured that much...despite the repeated time you have told me that fact. I patiently await my new regulator. Its not a Bosch is it?
