Got my '88 T Type inspected today. It passed with flying colors on what is required, but the guy doing the work noticed that my front two motor mounts were shot.

He revved the motor a bit and I saw the metal come up off the rubber so they're definately gone.

I did a search in the forums and found that its fairly easy to swap out by using a jack and a piece of wood (to spread the weight) and jack up the motor from the oil pan. Looks like the only tricky part is getting around the AC compressor but as a bit of Irony I don't have an AC compressor in it right now. The previous owner removed it and put a shorter serpentine belt on...

So.... I know mounts are about $40 each, but what sources would you guys recommend? Autozone, Napa, some online place? I'm in no huge rush as I have my '89 BLT to drive in the mean time.

I picked up the cheapest set of mounts from autozone... it totalled something like 45-50. Damn good investment, but the stock ones I believe are hydraulic? Yeah, so if you want to spend the extra cash, They may improve performance.. I have no idea honestly. The solid ones do me in just fine, and i've never driven a car with new motor mounts, so all i can say is it is quite superb, to the finest of degrees.

I don't think theres much performance to be gained from motor mounts, so I don't think it would matter what I get as long as it keeps the motor from jumping out of the bay and running away.

I will agree with you on that, but the new mounts significantly helped handling in the corners.. but mine were pretty shot.. like rip Lower Rad hose off with emergency braking.
