Question
Ok a couple questions...
For my year...
1. Where do you get an OEM Trans Pan Gasket?
2. How do you flush your trans? I was thinking just dump a bunch of extra fluid through...hah, i want to make sure i get the TC and all..so how?
3. What is the best trans fluid for a vehicle with 134,000 miles?
4. What is the best fluid flush/filter change interval?
5. Are there any other things i should know before doing it wrong...again?

2. no dumping fluid wont work lol, drop the pan, drain the fluid, replace pan, refill fluid, drive around for a little while, get the trans in tc lockup, drive back, drain. repeat process a few times to be sure and the fluid stays red. or just take the car to jiffy lube and have it t-tec flushed for like 100, last time i did it i paid 75 for it.
3. regular dexron/mercon III fluid, synthetic isnt the best option for this with these miles.
4. i believe yearly is the best unless you drive a whole lot, do it like every 15k if its SEVERE service
5. the usual blah blah blah, flushing it at this age could blow the tranny, blah blah blah.............
hope this helps

1. $36.50 FOR A PIECE OF RUBBER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!?!?!? I think...im gonna use the cork one...good god...i might as well take it to be done.
2. Yeah i think im gonna take it to be done, because taking off that pan is annoying enough FOR ONE YEAR, not a few times in one day....haha
3. Good. Any specific brand? Or not? And why exactly is it that synthetic is not that great for it?
4. Good thats what i figured.
5. WHAT?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! Just kidding, i know.....blah blah blah my freakin EYE!!! lol
Thanks John

1. i know its high, if you dont want to use cork, napa carries a rubber one but it dosent have the metal inserts. but cork and plastic gaskets have failed for me so i used rtv silicone to seal instead of them and it hasnt leaked to this day, i still see my sse all the time cuz it was my best friend that bought it
2. the only thing about having it done is that the flush just flushes the fluid thru the cooler lines, they dont drop the pan, thats extra, like 50 bucks, so the filter dosent get changed, its no big deal really but if you want it changed then drop the pan yourself and then have it flushed. thats what i did.
3. whatevers cheap works, trans fluid dosent have to be anything fancy, walmart sells gallon jugs of the stuff for like 5 bucks, thats what i always use

If you bring it in for service, make sure they change the filter and make sure they don't add any flushing solvents. Some places make excuses for not changing the filter, and it'* BS.
You cannot get all the junk out of the TC without removing it, since centrifugal force holds it in. I've had great luck with my high mileage 440t4s(240,000 on one) by changing the fluid with a pan drop, twice if really dirty.
Do not listen to the places who won't change it because it has high miles. That'* a liabilty dodge, and has no basis in fact. Changing the fluid is a good thing, high mileage trannys die because they have high mileage, not because the fluid was changed.

I have said for a long time, it you take care of the trans and replace the fluid at least once a year, chances are the trans will last a good long while... At 126k( Not bad miles for a 91 Bonnie ) I would have sworn up and down it wouldn't have made it this far..
And on the same note I have seen 269K out of a THM-125 in a Transport, and it didn't have good maintance as far as fluid chages went, but it still made 269k and finally quit..

THM-125
Got 142,000 on my THM-125 in the Buick and still running strong.
It has a cooler as well as all my cars.
All the fluids stay cherry red.
Heat is the main cause of tranny failure and brown fluid is an indication of the fluid running too hot.

And yes the Brownish fluid was an indication to me that the Fluid was getting too hot... The 95 SE was doing simmilar but not as bad as the 440-T4... But once I got the scantool ans saw the 230F temps from the trans it was time for a cooler... Neither car kills fluid anymore...
I went almost 2 years on the 95 without a change( too much going on ans I made several trips up north ) when I changed the fluid it was still cherry red...
wjcollier07,
Are you still going to take it in to have the fluid changed? Or attempt it yourself? And you have the same 2.84 trans I have in my LE
