I just wanted to make sure here...my oil pressure guage is a little funky. Occaisionally when idling it will fidget between the 1/2 to 3/4 mark (mine is in kilopascals, so that probably won't mean much to you guys), and when driving it will be anywhere between 3/4-full (sometimes).

I got my oil changed yesterday (and there were no problems found, except a leaky pan gasket), and the oil warning light has never come on. Is the guage just screwed up?

Probably a poor connection from the Oil Sending Unit to the Gauge. The Oil idiot light is just to warn you of <10 or 15 PSI [not safe to drive]. As long as it is above 1/2 [40PSI], you are cool. I don't know what the **** kilopascals are, but 1/2 on your gauge, is one half on ours. 1/4 - 20PSI, 1/2 - 40PSI, 3/4 - 60PSI Full - 80PSI.

Good...thats what I figured. I've never seen that fall below the 1/2 point.

As for kilopascals (kPa) it'* a reading of pressure as well. Atmospheric pressure is usually 101 +/- kPa, or 760mm Hg on the manometer. You can more easily compare units with it and work things out...like most other things in the metric system...compared to the imperial system.

yes its intriguing. a kilopascal (kPa) is 1 kN/m^2 (force / area = pressure) = 1000 N / m^2. = 1000 kg*m/(sec*sec*m*m) So 1 kPa is the same as 1000 kilogram meters per second per second per meter per meter. Who'da thunk it

I meant comparing it to mm of Hg in chemistry and things like that...but two can play at that game. Thats quite the unit you have there, lol.

1 kilometer = 1000 meters = 100000 centimeters = 1000000 milimeters
1 metric ton = 1000 kilograms = 1000000 grams
1 litre = 1000 mililitres

and so forth -

1 mile = 1,760 yards = 5,280 feet = 63,360 inches
1 barrel = 41.99 gallons = 167.99 quarts
1 ton = 2000lbs = 32000 ounces

I still like working with metric units thank you very much.

Yeah, I try to use Metric as much as I can, but whenever communicating with someone, I usually have to use Standard, because not a whole lot of Americans know the Metric system. Especially with cars, since a lot of it is specific to standard [IE the oil pressure and temp gauge].
