OK.

I checked the fluid. It was about half a pint low. I filled on Friday and it sat all weekend. Drove it to work this morning but it was about 10 deg out so I didn't want to push it to far. It was shifting hard. I'll update yas when I get a chance to run it harder.

Maybe running it too hard causes the problem?

Beating on a car is never good. But by the fact he cares enough to not push her hard when cold, I don't think he'* doing this. Although taking corners at a slow pace, don't make the fluid slosh around, and prevent a lack of fluid flow .

Today was a little better, a balmy 23 degrees. It ran a lot better. The left turn thing seems to have gone away. I am still shifting hard into first off the line. Can the vacuum thingy jam cause that?

As far as running the car hard. I've beat the hell outta this car in 14 years. It usually takes all I can give it, but I thinks she'* finnally starting to wear out on me.

And at nine degrees (Fahrenhiet for our Canadian friends) everything is thick.
