Sorry you had problems.
sounds like your working on the wrong section.
1) sit in the drivers seat.
2) unsnap both sun visors and swing out of way.
3)unscrew overhead lamp and roof switch assembly.
4)look up at the headliner opening around moon roof.
5)remove rubber finish bead.
6)unpack liner material so you could reach up under it between visors. Slightly pull
liner down between visors. (not much).
7)use offset screwdriver to loosen two front motor screws then the one to the left.
(total 3).
8)drop motor enough to disengage gear.
9)unclip and swing timing wire 90 deg.
10)turn small plastic wheel until notch in big wheel lines up with switch while roof is
in closed position.
11)assembly is reverse of dissassembly.

Ok... woah... I was totally in the wrong area.

I've got to put it back together and try the new instructions tomorrow.

Ok... update...

I followed your new instructions, but I was unable to get access to the two screws to disengage the motor. It appears you have to remove the headliner from the sunroof, but I didn't know how, and I didn't want to ruin/rip my headliner.

Also, I accidently gave the motor power while the clip was disengaged...
Now the green disc is "dropped" down, and spins freely.
Also you have to "double tap" the motor inorder to move the moonroof.
1st press it just goes "click".......... 2nd press it moves, but still doesn't pause.

HELP!!!

I just removed the vinyl finish bead around the inside of the moonroof then pulled
the packed headliner material out of the slot and reached above the headliner to do the work.
You need a small offset philips screwdriver to get at the screws.
Sounds like you need to disengage the timing wire again and gently push the small wheel up while turning it.
Never engage the motor while this timing wire in disengaged.

Yea I figured that's what I needed to do.... but I can't figure out how-to remove the headliner.

I've got an offset screwdriver.... I'm just wondering how much damage I did.

Yea.... I learned that the hard way.

I have heard of a clutch somewhere that can be tightened. Mine will spin without moving unless I use a finger to help. This seems to be on initial opening only, it will generally close without assistance.

Before I do anything else up there... I want to learn how-to safely take down the headliner...

I just can't figure it out, and I'm scared to do anything with it.

Don't remove you whole headline unless you plan on replacing it.
You just want to hang down the portion between the visors after you remove the overhead light console and switch assy.
3 screws two are located under light lenses.
Just pull the front part of the vinyl bead out between visor part of moon roof
headliner.
then the headliner will sag down so you could reach above it.

Ok I did that... I managed to get at the motor thru the hole from the overhead lights.

I removed the vinyl bead, and the headliner doesn't sag at all... its in there really tight.
I'll try and snap some shots to show you.

Ok... I can remove the overhead unit that hold the lights really easily.
You can see the plastic grey bead from around the sunroof is gone....

But I don't know how to unclip/remove the headliner from the edge of the sunroof.
