Timing chan- its an expensive repair, as well as upper and lower intakes.

However, a great engine. check out my sig. With regular maintenence and oil changes, it will last.

These cars can last a long time ,especially taken care of. I had a 89 sse with 250k on her and my friend is stil driving it,right now I have a 90 sse with about 200k only thing is like Mike said the aluminum intake manifold corrodes or leaks.I have a 2000 ssei and I still love to drive my 90.

Default intake

With regular maint. including anti freeze changes you shouldn't have much troble with the intake. Its a one piece design, not like the gen II.
I have never touched mine at 138,000 mi.

I agree not trying to scare you off with the intake, when buying these years there is usually many miles on them and you dont know how well it was maintained .I am just saying this is an area (intake) to inspect when buying. However I didnt find the damage until I pulled the intake and cleaned the mating surfaces.I think these intakes will outlast the newer 2 pc though as far as leaking.

I''m losing track of how many of these cars I've gone through, but I've never had a major engine problem over a half million miles (not all on the same car

Dark Shadow, that'* extermely rare, and is more common in any other type of car of that vintage.

Engine problems are RARE. With simple basic maintenance, many of these cars go well over 250k.
