Is this a Vin 3 3.8 HO or a Vin C 3800? There were 2 engines for 88...
And yes the Vibration Dampener should come off without a puller...
If not and you are replacing the Vibration Dampener anyhow, you may have to heat it to remove it... But you need to be very careful to not heat it so much that it runis the front main seal... I'd replace that seal while you are there anyhow...

heat
heat is not your friend. anytime you heat a part you are annealing it and softening the steel. This ruins the heat treatment originally mfg into the part for durability.
Especially engine and suspension parts should not be heated unless you want your alignment to continually go out.
thats why I choose to spray the bejeebies out of it with penetrant.
