:o I had looked for the governor on that old tranny b4 and didn't see anything that looked like it would be easy to remove. is this the governor? there is a seal still on it, should I replace it before switching it into the 3.33 tranny?

Here'* the illustration from the 440T4 manual:

The image to the right is the entire governor assembly. Halfway up the shaft is the two clamshell weights and their springs. These weights expand outward based on the speed the axles are spinning and operate a valve in the center of the shaft to modulate fluid pressure in the valve body. Different weights and springs can alter the shift pattern on the transmission.
