what sound does the owner what to acheive out of his car? best bet is sound clips and he can go from there |
I know that it's not really relevant, but the braided-looking pipe mentioned in the first post would be a flex-pipe of some sort, right? Not a resonator. I know I've seen such braided pipes used as flex-pipes on some imports and a ford contour.
Sorry, I just can't let stuff like that go... |
Here, got somewhat of an action shot, I just got up and realized my dad was going out, so it was quite hasty:
Drive sounds: Right-Click, Save Target As (1.92MB) (it's bone stock piping/muffler) |

Idling (Right-Click, Save Target As), 2.26MB I've yet to get action shots, but here, have some fast idle http://members.rogers.com/repins/emoticons/tongue.gif |
Interesting, I've never heard another Bonneville sound quite like mine, might be in my head. Not the neighbour's '87, not any other pre-91 3800, not alex_r357's '89 SE, nothing.
edit: might I add, I was behind a two-paned window when I shot the video, so the volume was probably considerably dampened |
SSE's have the N10 Muffler, so comparing with anything other than that, is going to differ. Mine sounds fairly similar. If you have someone rev the engine, and you are standing by your muffler, can you hear a little bit of a cackle on the deleceration? N10 has dual tips, btw.

I have the single-outlet, dual-tipped muffler, different from yours, IIRC.
|
No, we have the same. I just think maybe captainmiller is right, in that you may have an exhaust leak, because I don't think mine is quite that loud. Mind you, it's been a while since my car has run :(. I miss that beautiful sound.

The last exhaust leak (to my knowledge, anyway, as far as I know, my system is solid) I had was between the downpipe and cat (IIRC) this past summer, and the car REALLY sounded different. That's been fixed.

Those clips are a lot like my stocker. Not a bad sound at all, just kinda quiet. For the price i got mine for, the dual look, and volume are a great deal. Catalytic converters can be plugged more then others making them quieter, etc. Outside air temperature closed/open loop also effect this.
