We are getting some snow on top of our ice rink roads so its harder to go, I am pulling into my driveway and I start to slip so I give it a little gas and all of sudden, my speedo goes up to like 80 but my tires arent spinning, and it is griding like crazy. Just happened about an hour ago. So I call repair guy and he says it might be my axle. Car wont go into park, drive or reverse. Does that sound like an accurate assumption with the problems?

I had a car do something similar to that. It would go right up on the speed but the car sat still. It was an axle that a few teeth broke off where it enters the tranny. You could see the axle move up and down when the car sat there.

but once it was off I could shift it into reverse and park, couldn't do it while running since the tranny was in gear and kept running.
