Default Crank Bolt..'91 3800 Vin L

I pulled my crank bolt out to replace the interrupter magnet, gears, and chain but it came out really hard. When it was out I noticed that the threads in the crank appeared a bit damaged. Is it possible to run thread chaser/ tap into the crank to repair the threads?

Thanks

Sure if you have a big enough one, bolt should spin in by hand. Caution: have seen somee replacement bolts that seemed to be too long, check before installing. AFAIR '91 "L" has a press filt, not a slide on balancer.

I'm am all too familiar with trying to get this stupid HB off. Oh, for the days of the ones that would basicallly slide off by hand. I had to go purchase 3-- 6mm bolts to fit the threads behind the cover. It also appears the thrust bolt adapter is too big to go into the hole......Another puller for a different application I have has a push rod in the center of the thrust bolt that seems to be the trick. Stupid magnet! It spun off one day while passing a slow tractor on a 2 lane road. Engine runs just fine, BUT the fuel mileage is atrocious and the C.E. light drives me crazy (I love black tape)! I've got to do better than 18 mph. with today'* prices. I remember this thing will do at least 22-24 in town and about 27 on the hwy.

Thanks

If the engine still runs you must be talking about the cam magnet (sets a code 41). See http://padgett.ws/cars/cammag.htm for a cheap fix without removing the balancer.
