That'* 11mpg. You sure it can get that bad?

in response to the above two posts: He'* got no 3rd and OD, 3k @ 50mph is a given :P
that has to be in 3rd, because 50 mph is more like 4k rpm

If it really is the cat, how can I prove it, other than replacing it?
Well one way is to keep running your car with it on the car ( cat) and wait till it gets red hot and burns your car to the ground.

Seen it happen. Almost happened to me. It was someone else'* car, it would NOT start, or start then bog and die. He wanted it moved from a mall to his appt( I was renting from him). I had Renée with me and maybe another friend. I finally got it running, had to keep the rpms up on the car so it wouldn't die, then shoved it into drive ( he was going to scrap the car anyhow). No slowing down for me, just give it the whole way. It'* about 5 minutes driving on the HWY 80 km/h. By the time I got there someone mentioned they could see glowing under the car, it was the cat, but luckily it didn't burn to the ground.

Well, the heated discussion of my shift points I see have been resolved.

1st - 48mph
2nd - 78mph

If I floor it, the car will drop down to 2500RPM at 55. But the transmission isn't slipping at 3000RPM. So I don't know. It does the same thing in first and at every other speed and whatnot. Oh well.. I'm not really beating on the transmission per se, but I'm not babying it anymore.

I don't think it was 11mpg. Let'* see... i put $10 in, 2.39/ga at the time, that'* 4.1ga total. drove 50mi on about that gas [when I filled up the low fuel indicator had just came on, and now it just came on for me now again]. So my guess I used about 4.5ga in 50 miles and sure enough 11mpg. God damn that'* really shitty. What the hell is wrong with my car? is it because i sit a 3k most of the time? I don't really just aimlessly run the car now, I just drive it.

Maybe I should drive her around a little then park her and look at the cat? If it'* glowing red I guess I know what'* wrong, eh?
