Back the train up. It would be good to know the mileage of the car.
A faulty TPS signal could mess up timing and unburnt fuel in a fouling cylinder could also cause a backfire..
Check the total ignition system first. Coils, plugs, wires and sensors. Check for codes.
Then pull the ECU connectors on and off a few times with the battery unhooked. Then try running it.
See what you find.

But really, sorry about the car going out. It probably could have been resurrected, but it seems your sister wanted a newer car. What did she get?

The car was bought for $500 dollars almost 2 years ago with damage to the front clip, looked like someone smacked the step of a box van. The only door you could get into from the outside was the pass. side front. U didn't need a key to start it, the wipers only worked on high and only when they wanted to. This car was a P.O.*! It had over 250,000 on it also. So it'* not like we were trying that hard to save it. I gave her my 93 GPSE 3.1. Had that car since 2001 and she still purr'*. Told her I want it back when she gets another car, I don't think she'* lookin for a car tho. She already told me, i'd be lucky if she let it go. Sh'e liked that car since I got it.
