Default 1988 Bonneville

Is the following correct?
__________________________________________________ _______________
Bonneville LE, SE, SSE

For 1988, the body stayed the same, however, the base model of Bonneville
was replaced by the LE, and the SE and SSE levels of trim were added.

2 Engines were offered in 1988. Beats the hell outof me which went into which models, but Ill bet the LN3 came out late in the model year and was carried over to 1989. These engines were:
3.8 HO SFI V6 Vin#3 150 Hp @ 4400rpms 210ftlbs @ 2800rpms (LG3)
3.8 (3800) MFI Series I Vin#C 165 Hp @ 4400rpms 220ftlbs @ 2800rpms (LN3)

The LN3 engine became the first to be known as the 3800

The transaxle in 1988 for all models was the GM 440T4, also known as the 4T60.

No supercharged models offered.
__________________________________________________ ______________

In addition to this information, I need a description of the exhaust, including EGR, O2 sensor(*), muffler outlet type, and resonator (if used). Can anyone help out?
Available final drive ratios for the transaxle would help, too.

I believe the LE had the 150 HP engine while the SE and SSE came with the 165 HP engine standard.

Both are totally hydraulic transaxles and I can get a stronger version of them for the person wanting to put more hp through them. To increase shift firmness is very difficult.

So why were there 2, what are the exact GM designations for them, and what is the difference?

In CDN GM There TWO Final Drive Ratios offered on the ME9 Trans only. But there was 2 different differentials used too in 88 (1st & 2nd Designs). THe CDN GM Database only showed 1 trans for 87 - 91 though!

Note: Chiltons covers more than just the Bonneville in that repair manual! It covers ALL H Bodies made by GM. That'* why it will also say that there was 2 engines available too, the 3.8 - C & 3800 - 3 engines!
