I went the pick and pull yard that is about 40miles. He had a complete 1988 vin C 3800. Water pump, alt, starter, and even plugs wires just needs a coil pack (no problem with that). From the looking around the engine it does not have have any major leaks. It could us a new set on vavle cover gaskets and that'* it. He said it came out of a car with 120k on it. Should i run to this or run away.
you could prolly take my whole car for $500. engine is good, with no leaks. car runs great, except it ate a toyota paseo.
btw, tranny MIGHT be bad, but that remains unconfirmed.

Rocketfast, offer him 250-350 and see if he'll bite... I'd say 400 for a 3800 with 120,000 miles is not bad especially if it has all of the assoiated parts to go with it...
But do have a look inside the valve cover to see how clean or dirty the engine is... You'll know if it didn't ever have its oil changes...

I will call him back in a week. First I'm gonna see if i can get him to lower the price first. Then if not I can give him the old parts off the LeSabre I don't need like, A/c,starter,PS pump, the reman alt with only 30miles at most on (but it a autozone alt. so it might be dead.), heads, and intake. Or he can take the parts off his engine i don't need.
Give him your parts.. but don't tell him what happened to your engine. If his engine was taken care of, his parts will be better than your'* [no offense]. Be prepared to walk away from it. If he wants a sale, he'll come after you.

He ask why i needed one and I said, "It was parked for 8 years and on start up it was knocking a little." Maybe he wont remember that
Tell him to keep the headers, and keep your'*. I highly doubt you will be able to pull/install the engine with the headers in it. Knock off a few bucks without the headers. Keep the alt, trust me, you'll need it. Try to get a core charge on some of the accessories; or something to that effect. Always try to keep personal info to yourself, or bs it.. because see that MAY come back to bite you in the ***.
If just flat out offering lower doesn't work, ask him what it would take to get it down to that price. You won't need two sets of headers, two PS Pumps, two WPs, two A/C Compressors, so see what you can do to have him keep it, or sell it back [you could even take the whole engine, then give him your parts back.. saying it is from his engine {just a suggestion, never said I was condoning it}]. Just try to keep your new alt.. chances are you will be buying a new one shortly after the swap, which makes troubleshooting a bitch.
